The Montgomery County Front Porch Stage, Inc., is well known for providing free music throughout the summer at the Court House Square in Mt. Ida, However, the organization has, as a part of its mission, the fostering of music education within the county as well.
At a recent meeting, the Front Porch Stage’s Board of Directors approved donating $1000 to each of the music programs in the three schools located in our county. Funding for this endeavor comes from sales at the Possum Store and Back Porch Kitchen, as well as specific donations from the public. The Front Porch Stage is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization; therefore, all donations to the Front Porch Stage are tax deductible.
On November 29, 2016, members of the Board traveled to each of the schools and presented the checks to the Oden, Mt. Ida, and Caddo Hills school music teachers. Board members Dan Watson, Robert Cavanaugh, and Mark Willborg presented the checks to Jessica McAnulty of Oden, Christa Burgess of Mt. Ida, and Cilla Green of Caddo Hills.
In addition to financially supporting the schools, we are asking each of the schools to open for a show in May when the Front Porch resumes it weekly schedule of performances. Our goal is to provide a venue for students to perform in a public setting, and to encourage students to continue enjoying and making music a part of their lives after graduation.
We sincerely thank all who attend performances at the Front Porch Stage and who, through your purchases and donations, enable us to achieve this most important aspect of our mission.
